CHEMISTRY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

I. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM

The Chemistry Program was started in the 2012-2013 academic year within the scope of YÖK (Higher Education Institution). It is a 2-year program consisting of 4 semesters that each has 14 weeks. The program aims to develop the teaching programs based on employment among the vocational and technical secondary education institutions, high schools which are under the influence of the Project of the Development of Human Sources Via Vocational Education (İKMEP) leaning on 5th level vocational standards. Within this scope, it is aimed to bring up qualified vocational personnel under the branch of Chemistry Technology and itself with the direction of the new scientific and technological and advances and needs of sector.

In this process, academic studies, laboratories applications and industry based education are carried out.

This syllabus program, beside the development of the handicrafts of laboratories applications and industries, is prepared to present industrial chemistry and basic concepts of chemistry. The program aims to provide the need of intermediate members of the industry in the future and now.  In order for this, the technicians who are the members of industry chemistry group are supposed to be more informed and foresighted than qualified workers.

The main task of the chemistry technician is to help chemists and chemistry engineers in the process of industrial applications. For this reason, the program requires from the technicians both having more information about the basic principles of chemistry and more skilled in control and management of the higher technology equipment.

II. RELATED SECTORS, JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND GRADUATES

The chemistry technicians may work in the chemistry industries and other industry fields where chemistry science quality control and researches are used. Because such as paint, detergent, cosmetics, paper, petrochemistry, food process, plastic, polymers, agrochemistry and glass sectors use chemistry science in production, quality-control based on research, they serve more job opportunities for our graduates.

Our graduate students may transfer vertically to the departments of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering in Engineering Faculties and Chemistry Departments in Science Faculties.

III. EDUCATION- TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES

While the theoretical courses of the Chemistry Technician Program are carried out in the chemistry department classrooms in Vocational High School and Science and Arts Faculty, the application courses are held in the program's laboratories under the control of an expert. Moreover, the students are supposed to complete the application courses with the 20 working-day industry-based training in the 1st and 2nd years of their education.
