HISTORY

The university was established on 17 March 2006 in Amasya. The history of the university goes back to 1974, when a teacher training institution was established in Amasya by the Ministry of Education. In 1975, the Ministry of Education also founded a vocational school in Amasya.

In 1982 when the Higher Education Council was established, these two schools became units of Ondokuz Mayıs University İn Samsun.

In the 2011-2012 academic year, our university educates students through five faculties, including Education, Sciences&Arts, Architecture, Technology and Medical; one health vocational school; five vocational schools (Amasya, Merzifon, Taşova, Suluova and Gümüşhacıköy); and two institutes (Sciences and Social Sciences). our school started academic educatin in 2012 in Amasya/Turkey. In 2012 Vocational School of Health was moved to Amasya University İpekköy Campus. Our institution is very young. We've got useful laboratories and modern education facilities.

The objective of the establishment of the school is to grow up productive and qualified health services staff whose aim at fulfilling the objectives of the health services on logical basis, and who supported the improvements in this area in relation with positive sciences.

Our schools' name derives from Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin. Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin (1385-1468) was a medieval Ottoman surgeon and physician. he lived during the 15th century in Amasya. During the early period of the Ottoman Empire, Amasya was a center of commerce, culture, and arts. During this period, Şerefeddin Sabuncuoğlu practiced medicine at Amasya Hospital, which was builth in 1308.
